We’ve been lucky enough to stay in some of the best hotels in Scotland on our travels, whether researching guidebooks or writing newspaper, magazine and website stories about Scotland. Here we recommend the best of those hotels, along with other accommodation including guesthouses, b&bs, rental properties, historic inns, gastropubs, and even the occasional castle.
We can confidently recommend these as being among the best hotels in Scotland, because we've personally stayed in them all. They include hotels in Edinburgh, Glasgow, the Highlands, the Borders, near St Andrews, and elsewhere around the country.
We’ve deliberately highlighted the places likely to be most popular with people wanting to travel beyond London to see the best of Scotland – Edinburgh, Glasgow, the Highlands, the Borders, and places near St Andrews for the golf. Of course there’s much more to Scotland than this, and we’ve also recommended places to stay as you drive around, and a few places that are worth driving to just to stay in the accommodation.
We’ve also included a few round-ups that might be of interest, even though we haven’t necessarily stayed in all the luxury hotels in Glasgow or Edinburgh – but we’re working on that one!
