Driving from London to Bath for a day trip is not recommended. Bath is about 115 miles due west of London and most of the drive would be on the M4 motorway, but it still takes at least two hours, which is slower than the train.
The driving time to Bath from London is added to because much of Bath city centre is closed to traffic. It's better to use one of the free Park and Ride car parks and take the bus into the city. The buses are frequent and the fare is cheap but if you only have one day in the city then using the Park and Ride can add another hour to your overall journey time.
