A new service from Megabus starting 8 July 2015 links London with Italy for the first time on the Megabus network. Megabus already has an extensive Italian network, with coaches travelling between 13 cities including Rome, Milan, Naples, Venice and Florence.
The recent opening of a Megabus depot in Lyon means that the existing London-Paris-Lyon service can be extended to enable direct journeys through to the Italian cities of Milan and Turin. From here travelers can change to the domestic Italian network for onward buses to other popular visitor destinations such as Rome and Florence.
There will be two services a day in each direction, and the new route will be the only direct coach link between London and Milan. It will also be the first direct bus service between London and Lyon.
Megabus coaches all have free wifi, power sockets, a toilet and air-conditioning, and the company's passenger numbers have increased by over 60% in the past year.
Fares between London, Milan and Turin will start at £1, with Megabus guaranteeing at least one seat on each journey at that price, plus a 50p booking fee.
The Megabus European coach network now covers over 150 destinations including Manchester, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Amsterdam, Paris, Amiens, Brussels, Ghent, Antwerp, Rotterdam, Toulouse, Barcelona, Brussels, Lille, Luxembourg, Frankfurt, Stuttgart and Munich.
One reason for Megabus's cheap fares when compared to other coach operators is the size of their coaches. Megabus coaches carry up to 72 passengers, bringing cost savings.
The Megabus website offers English, Italian, French, German, Spanish and Dutch language options.
