From May 2015 Megabus is operating a base in Lyon, France, which will allow for cheap and easy coach services between Lyon, Montpellier and Frankfurt. Other cities on the new route, which links Spain, France and Germany, are Barcelona, Perpignan, Avignon, Mulhouse, Freiburg, Karlsruhe, Heidelberg and Cologne. The new routes mean that there are direct coach services for the first time between France and Germany.
In Germany domestic coach services are now possible on Megabus between Cologne, Frankfurt, Heidelberg, Karlsruhe and Freiburg, thanks to this new route. Megabus already operates in Stuttgart, Munich, Berlin and Hamburg, with 13 locations in all in Germany.
If booking in advance there are some fares on all services for €1 (subject to a 50c booking fee). On average, a Megabus fare within Europe is €15.
Two services a day will operate in each direction between Barcelona, Perpignan, Montpellier, Avignon, Lyon, Mulhouse, Freiburg, Karlsruhe, Heidelberg, Frankfurt and Cologne.
Lyon Coach Stop
The new Lyon operating base is in Belleville-sur-Saône, north of Lyon, where seven vehicles will be parked, fuelled, cleaned and maintained. The bus stop, however, is centrally located at Gare Part-Dieu on Rue de la Villette, in the coach park opposite the entrance to the Lyon Part-Dieu train station.
Megabus uses large 87-seater coaches, which helps keep the prices down. All coaches have power sockets, a toilet and free WiFi.
Passengers can book tickets on the Megabus website, which is available in French, German, English, Spanish and Dutch.
